Green Cone Food Waste Digester

The Green Cone is a food waste digester which has its base buried in the soil - this is where all the work takes place to ‘digest’ the food waste using heat and harmless bacteria, breaking it down to its natural components of carbon and water.  It’s a natural process that relies on the heat from the sun, so the Green Cone needs to be placed in a sunny spot in your garden.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is currently offering residents the opportunity to buy
a cut price Green Cone food waste digester or Green Johanna 'hot composter', to help reduce the amount of rubbish thrown away.

If you'd like more information visit www.basingstoke.gov.uk/environment/

Green Garden Waste Collection Service

Grass cuttingBasingstoke and Deane Borough Council provides fortnightly collections of garden waste from March until early December. The collection service is for grass cuttings, hedge clippings, leaves, flowers, weeds and other green garden waste.

The service has been developed to make it easy for residents to recycle their green garden waste.  It gives you the opportunity to have your garden waste collected rather than filling your car and taking it to the household waste recycling centre. The service can also take items which may not compost easily at home, such as large amounts of grass cuttings, hedge clippings and tree trimmings.

The green garden material is composted locally to produce Pro-Grow, a high quality organic soil conditioner, which is then available for residents to buy at the Household Waste Recycling Centres in Hampshire.

For lots more information about the service, including how to sign up for the service and answers to frequently asked questions, visit www.basingstoke.gov.uk/environment/
